GAME PICTURES-exhibition will be arranged as a part of Levels-game happening.
Time: 25.-26.4.2009
Place: IT-Dynamo of JAMK University of Applied Sciences and web gallery
Images for the exhibition are being received before April 21st 2009.
Levels-game happening takes place 25.-26.4 in Jyväskylä at JAMK University of Applied Sciences IT-Dynamo building. As a part of the happening there will be an exhibition with theme of images inspired by computer games. Images sent for exhibition will also be published in web gallery, which will be open also after the happening. The exhibition is arranged by Live Herring workgroup (the regional artist of film and media culture in Central-Finland), in co-operation with Levels-game happening.
Technique for making images is free. Images can be entirely computer made, photos companying computer graphics and photo or traditional photos – or for example colored pencil drawings.
Note that You can´t copy material for Your images straight from the games because of the copyright laws. What You can do is for example re-illustrate the game world and it characters and put game heroes in new imagined situations. Your image doesn´t have to base on any existing game. Neither doesn´t it have to necessarily represent anything. Instead You can illustrate the feeling of the game or make decorative compositions about the characters of games. Use Your imagination!
We don´t publish any images containing raw violence, anything else offensive material or prohibited under 18 years old. There are no other limitations for taking part in the exhibition.
Images sent by email will be printed in A4-format for the exhibition.
Authors name or pseudonym will be disclosed alongside the images and if wanted, website address and email can also be shown.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE?
Send Your image in jpg, tif, psd or pdf format by e-mail to address: big.fish@liveherring.org
Include in Your e-mail author’s name or pseudonym and possible other information wanted to be shown with the image.
If You send Your image in paper form (or any other concrete material), You can post it to address:

Include authors name or pseudonym and possible other information wanted to be shown alongside Your image in same envelope with Your image. We don´t send back any images sent by mail!
Images which are received before 21.4 will be shown in the exhibition as a part of Levels-game happening at 25.-26.4.2009 and in web gallery. We’ll receive game related images for the web gallery also after the exhibition has ended.

Voluntary participants (Siipeijät) and the museum staff have built community art work Airport to the Lower Gallery of Jyväskylä Art Museum and Live Herring Working Group participated in the construction of the Airport.
In the Airport there is nostalgic flight-related games which are loan from private collector. You can for example reminice with Vectrex game system. At the same time there is an opportunity to test your flying skills with the open source flight simulator Flight Gear. Live Herring looked also internet archives for nostalgic aviation-related movie clips. In the Airport there is film material for example, about the air ship Hindenburg. You can also see the last movie about female aviator Amelia Earhart, who disappeared on her tour around the World in July 1937.
There is also events in the Airport, such as performances, dance and workshops.
There is free admission to the Airport and its events!
The Airport is open Tue-Sun from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and it closes on April 5th, 2009.
The Airport is part of the The Magic of Flight project of Jyväskylä museums in which all the Museums of Jyväskylä city are concentrating to the theme of flying from different perspectives. The museums participating are the Jyväskylä Art Museum, Museum of Central Finland, Central Finland’s Aviation Museum, Finnish Museum of handicrafts, in Central Finland Museum of Nature and the Alvar Aalto Museum.

The Arts Council of Central Finland nominated Live Herring working group (Päivi Hintsanen, Ilkka Kuukka and Soile Ollikainen) as regional artist of film and media-art from the beginning of year 2009.
As a regional artist we want to enforce collaboration and co-operation at the field and for that we have decided to invite media and film artists and actors of the field to a meet each other at informal get together. Artists have also possibility to present their projects.
First get together will be organized in Jyväskylä at The Writer’s House of Central Finland (Seminaarinkatu 26) at March 23rd from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Welcome!

MetalkinG (”hallucinating high energy noise cinema”) is a cinésonic performance of French artists Richarles Bronson (electronic toys), Riojim and Gaëlle Rouard (16mm film projector screwing). They will be showing for the first time in Finland at the Tampere Film Festivals, but you are also able to see their performance in Jyväskylä when the artists continue their tour of Finland.
In Jyväskylä the MetalkinG duo, Riojim and Richarles Bronson, will be joined by Gaëlle Rouard from La Foxe sound-on-film, to make a special trio performance. La Foxe has its Finnish premiere at the Tampere Film festival on Sat, March 7th.
Welcome to see this unique performance at the Jyväskylä Art Museum, Holvi (Kauppakatu 23) on Friday, Mach 6th at 7 p.m!
Free entrance!
Please note, that there is a limited amount of admission.

The Museums of Jyväskylä city are concentrating at this spring to the theme of flying. In all museums there are exhibitions looking at the theme of flying from different perspectives.
Live Herring working group wants to participate to this project by
organizing a media (art) workshop that is tied to the theme of The
Magic of Flight. Now we are looking for inspiring and feasible
workshop proposals.
We are primarily looking for media(art) workshop proposals and and we wish that using of new media / new technologies at the workshop
would be considered in the proposals with the theme. But workshop proposals based for example on animation, video, image processing or 3D-modeling techniques are also welcome! In workshop the outcome could be for example an art work that is executed in cooperation with artist and participants, or in the workshop there could be a possibility to make something concrete to take home.
Time: April-May
Duration: 1-2 days
Mode of the workshop: walk-in (open-to-all workshop, where you can
participate without registration)
Theme of the workshop: the Magic of Flight (interpretation freely!)
Write an application where You:
- Describe the idea of the workshop shortly: name, theme, realization
of the workshop, language
- What resources are needed to realize workshop: space, technical
devices, assistants..
- Your wage/compensation and traveling expenses
- other background information that you consider to be important
Add your CV or short description of your earlier action in the application.

Live Herring work group (Päivi Hintsanen, Ilkka Kuukka and Soile Ollikainen) started working at The Arts Council of Central Finland as the regional artist of film and media culture.
We’d like to invite you all to celebrate the beginning of the new era with us to Live Herring opening club at Saturday February 7th, 2009 from 7 pm in Bar Vakiopaine (Kauppakatu 6, Jyväskylä). Welcome!
No entrance fee but there is age limit 18+.
The evening is spiced with the visuals by VJ Joel Kivelä and the sounds by DJ Hammock.
