Airport-community art work at the Lower Gallery of Jyväskylä Art Museum
Voluntary participants (Siipeijät) and the museum staff have built community art work Airport to the Lower Gallery of Jyväskylä Art Museum and Live Herring Working Group participated in the construction of the Airport.
In the Airport there is nostalgic flight-related games which are loan from private collector. You can for example reminice with Vectrex game system. At the same time there is an opportunity to test your flying skills with the open source flight simulator Flight Gear. Live Herring looked also internet archives for nostalgic aviation-related movie clips. In the Airport there is film material for example, about the air ship Hindenburg. You can also see the last movie about female aviator Amelia Earhart, who disappeared on her tour around the World in July 1937.
There is also events in the Airport, such as performances, dance and workshops.
There is free admission to the Airport and its events!
The Airport is open Tue-Sun from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and it closes on April 5th, 2009.
The Airport is part of the The Magic of Flight project of Jyväskylä museums in which all the Museums of Jyväskylä city are concentrating to the theme of flying from different perspectives. The museums participating are the Jyväskylä Art Museum, Museum of Central Finland, Central Finland’s Aviation Museum, Finnish Museum of handicrafts, in Central Finland Museum of Nature and the Alvar Aalto Museum.
