Jani Sarajärvi graduated from the National College of Fine Art Oslo in 2001. During 2001-2004 he executed postgraduate studies in Higher Institute for Fine Arts-Flanders, Antwerp. He has exhibited internationally in Norway, Belgium and Germany. He currently lives and works in Jyväskylä.
Belonging to generation that comprehend the culture of consumerism, computer games/contemporary media, Sarajärvi is conscious of necessity of the critique of such a culture. His installations, presenting a "real virtual world" made of designed furniture, computer games, video and promotional graphic materials, provide environments for such critique.
For Live Herring -05, he is going to create a work which combines beforehand on site recorded scenic elements to real time video-stream based upon spectators interaction.
it is interesting to create a space, or should I say a condition, where the spectator can shift from one plane to another- from being a consumer to the spectator of art in the "white cube"- from infinitesimal consuming unit to a individual.
Real-time video stream can be viewed during the exhibition both in the exhibition grounds and projected to the window of Jyväskylä Art Museum in the centre of Jyväskylä.
